Aaron Guthrie identity stamp

Aaron Guthrie is an alumnus of the University of Westminster, where he earned a degree in Film & Television Production. His career trajectory showcases his versatility and capability to innovate across sectors.

Aaron founded New Notions, a cinema exhibition and production company, which is recognised for producing Boat Builders a documentary and live performance that delves into the heritage of Belfast's shipyards. The project received funding from Northern Ireland Screen and is a part of the British Film Institute's archival project focused on Britain's coastal and maritime culture.

In his tenure at Queen's Film Theatre, Aaron demonstrated a keen ability to engage with youth audiences. He spearheaded several British Film Institute sponsored initiatives, such as the development of the LUMI brand, which involved organising tailored screening events and setting up a young programmers' group. These significantly multiplied younger audiences at the cinema. His efforts also led to the creation of the annual LUMI Award and the production of Ceasefire Generation, a state of the nation documentary series about young people who were born up after the ceasefire in Northern Ireland, 1994.

Aaron's work in film extended to a documentary that chronicled the evolution of the equal marriage campaign in Northern Ireland, titled Rocky Road to Equal Marriage. This documentary, featuring archive footage from BBC, Northern Ireland Screen, RTE and others, had its premiere at the Queen's Film Theatre, complemented by a panel discussion of the chief campaigners.

With a commitment to fostering dialogue and development within the cinema exhibition industry, Aaron contributed to the UK’s premier cinema exhibition conference, This Way Up where he shared his insights on changing audience behaviours and resilience strategies for independent and community cinemas. His 2018 talk highlighted the societal shifts brought by the advent of automobiles to city streets, drawing parallels to audience adaptation in cinemas, while his 2019 presentation focused on developing a more authentic brand to connect with cinema's younger audiences.

He worked in factual television development, researching and pitching shows at Darlow Smithson Productions (part of Endemol Shine) such as What Britain Buys and Sells in a Day [BBC 2] and The Fitting Room [RTE].

Aaron has broadened his professional reach by leveraging his extensive skills at Shopify, assisting Fortune 500s, multinational, and high growth companies in enhancing their online business growth as Senior Technical Expert and now, as an Enterprise Technical Account Manager. His role at Shopify, working with Enterprise merchants, underscores his adaptability and the practical application of his wide-ranging experiences to drive business growth amid high technical complexity in the ecommerce domain.

He works remotely, often while traveling in his off-grid campervan.
